LRUK Forums

When we first joined the internet, we signed up for lots of Land Rover forums. Or rather Adrian did.

But the first one we signed up for was LRUK forums. It’s the one we post on the most, and we have had some good advice from it. We also have tried to post back advice, when we can.

On some of the others, people have offered to meet us. But not on LRUK, until recently.

The forum is pretty international, with members from North and Central America, even a few from South America (I think), some from Australia and New Zealand, a few from the Middle East and Asia too. Nearer to home there is a great Maltese section and a few of us in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

But one of the most active non-UK groups is based in South Africa. They are regular contributors and have some great stories.

Marc contacted us about his trip to Europe. He was travelling from Lisbon to Alicante and was thinking about detouring via Gibraltar and asked if we were interested in meeting.

We thought it would be cool, but didn’t know whether they would turn up. Seemed a big detour to us, but maybe not to someone from Africa.

So on Christmas Eve – we got the ‘phone call. They were in Morrison’s supermarket in Gibraltar.

Great Christmas Marc and Brigid. Thanks for coming.

  1. Small world. I have just realised that you guys may be members on the landrovernet.com forum too 🙂
I assume you are the same Adrain and Kate as the member login with those names? It doesn’t look like you’ve been on for a while though. I’m mainly posting in the Series and WIP forums these days as I ended up having too many arguments in the general discussion section 🙂 I have chatted to Marc briefly I think, his member name is MarcLurie?

A couple of us are planning a European tour once we have our Series trucks finished (that may be 2 years away at this rate though) so we may stop by to say hello at some point. I was inspired to ‘ground up’ rebuild my Series II after looking at Jayhoes build and even more inspired by his trip to Hungary just weeks after completing his rebuild – if you get a few minutes and haven’t already done so I’d recommend taking a look at his WIP thread or his Hungary trip thread. He is a nice chap and we’ve met a couple of times now despite living a couple of hundred miles apart and his truck is as fantastic in the flesh as it looks in the photos.

    • I never did reply to this!! Yes. We used it quite a lot when we first started joining LR forums. There was some good stuff around at the time on the Series section and as well as receiving help and advice, it was good to be able to put back too and offer similar help to others. Adrian was sensible and kept out of Gen disc whereas I was more like you and couldn’t resist the odd ‘debate.’ He’s also on OLLR, prob his favourite Series one, esp for the photos, LR4x4, a defender one (not sure which!), and countless others. And yes, that’s Marc.

Our Series had a new chassis, but the year before we came down here, it was all in pieces on our lawn and next doors as we put a new bulkhead in, and a few other things, as you do. Sadly no digipix back then which is a real shame.
We keep meaning to do loads of trips and here we still are! Hope your trip comes off, Morocco would be good of course too seeing as you are so near once you get to Spain 🙂
